US futures rising on strong retail numbers and ahead of jobs and economic data

NEW YORK –  U.S. stock futures are rebounding ahead of the latest government jobs and economic reports, with retailers posting some strong revenue numbers for May.

Dow futures are up 49 points to 12,430. The broader S&P 500 futures are adding 5.6 points to 1,314.2. Nasdaq futures are up 8.25 points to 2,539.

Labor Department is expected to report Thursday that people applying for U.S. unemployment aid remained close to 370,000 for the fifth straight week, an indicator of modest hiring. And economists expect the Commerce Department to report that the U.S. economy expanded more slowly this winter than first thought, but that growth began to accelerate in the spring.

Both reports are expected at 8:30 a.m. Eastern.

Target Corp. is posting better than expected revenue for stores open at least a year.
