NJ Muslim leaders scheduled to meet again with attorney general on NYPD surveillance program
May 24th 2012, 11:48

TRENTON, N.J. –  Muslim leaders who have been demanding a formal investigation into the New York Police Department's surveillance of businesses, mosques and Muslim student groups will meet Thursday with New Jersey's top state law enforcement official.

The private meeting will be at Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa's (key-AY'-sah) office in the Richard Hughes Justice complex in Trenton. It was called so the leaders can hear the outcome of his fact-finding review.

Several Muslim leaders who participated in a March meeting with Chiesa say they hope he will explain what role, if any, New Jersey law enforcement officials played in the operations. They also want to know if the NYPD violated any criminal or civil rights laws.

NYPD officials have repeatedly defended the program as legal and justified.

A Chiesa spokesman declined to comment.
