| Onetime top football prospect seeks exoneration on rape kidnap after accuser recants May 24th 2012, 10:25 LONG BEACH, Calif. – A onetime high school football star whose college prospects were shattered by a kidnap-rape conviction 10 years ago is seeking exoneration after his accuser changed her story and friended him on Facebook. Attorneys for the California Innocence Project said the woman who accused Brian Banks contacted him on the social network after he had served a six -year prison sentence and said she wanted bygones to be bygones.. Banks and the woman, Wanetta Gibson, were due in court Thursday when a judge may hear testimony and then rule on whether to expunge Banks' felony convictions for kidnap and rape. Lawyers said she changed her story several times, fearful she will have to return a $1.5 million civil court settlement from the school where the incident occurred. | |
