Rocky Mountain storms bring twisters to Colorado, hail to Wyoming but rain misses wildfire
Jun 7th 2012, 17:11

DENVER –  Storms struck some Rocky Mountain states overnight, launching tornadoes in Colorado and pummeling Wyoming with hail larger than golf balls.

Rain provided some help to firefighters wrapping up at a 227-acre wildfire in northern Colorado. But the storm hurt efforts to control a 3,500-acre blaze in Wyoming's Medicine Bow National Forest.

No rain fell there, and winds buffeted the fire. Other parts of Wyoming got hail about two inches in diameter.

In Colorado, people were rescued after cars became submerged in water and hail near a Colorado Springs shopping center. Snowplows were used in Douglas County to clear hail up to 8 inches deep.

Preliminary reports show that about five tornadoes touched down through Thursday in Colorado, including one near Denver International Airport. No serious damage was reported.
