New York accountant pleads guilty to providing assistance to Al Qaeda
Jun 4th 2012, 22:20

NEW YORK –  An accountant pleaded guilty Monday in Manhattan federal court to providing money and computer assistance to Al Qaeda, Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

Prosecutors alleged that Sabirhan Hasanoff, 34, who holds joint U.S. and Australian citizenship, had been recruited by a second man in the case, Wesam El Hanafi, in 2008.

El Hanafi has pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution said earlier Hasanoff had "performed real and tangible work" to help fund Al Qaeda.

He also was accused of supplying Al Qaeda with computer-encryption software.
