AMARILLO, Texas – A JetBlue plane en route to Las Vegas was diverted to Texas Tuesday after one of the pilots began acting erratically on board, KTVT-TV reported.
One witness told the station that a chaotic scene erupted after one of the plane's pilots was locked out of the cockpit after he left to go to the bathroom.
JetBlue Flight 191, with 135 passengers and five crew members aboard, departed New York's JFK airport en route to Las Vegas before landing safely in Amarillo, Texas.
In a statement, the airline described the incident as a "medical situation involving the Captain."
It added that another captain, who was on board but not on-duty at the time, entered the flight deck "prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill crewmember once on the ground."
JetBlue said the plane landed in Amarillo at 11:11 ET and the crewmember was removed from the aircraft and taken to a medical facility. It added that all customers deplaned the aircraft and will board a new plane to continue their journey to Las Vegas.
